“Assembly on Higher Education in Bangladesh”

Five student representative from the Department of English and four others from the Department of Business Administration along with Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Professor in GED and Assistant Advisor, Students’ Welfare of Manarat International University participated in the “Assembly on Higher Education in Bangladesh” on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Senate Hall, Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. The Assembly was organized by the Department of International Relations and Department of History, University of Dhaka in association with the German based think-tank Friedrich –Ebart-Stiftung (EFS). Welcome remarks were given by Professor Imtiaz Ahmed, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Ms Franziska Korn, Resident Representative, FES Bangladesh and His Excellency Dr. Thomas Prinz, German Ambassador to Bangladesh. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCGM, the founder and Chairman of BRAC delivered the keynote speech at the Assembly.  Dr. Iftekhar Iqbal, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Dhaka gave a presentation on Public University and Mr. Parvez Karim Abbasi, Associate Professor of Economics, East West University gave a presentation on Private University. Professor Atique Islam, Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor M, Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Independent University Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha, Pro Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi participated as the discussant as well as guest of honor.   The Assembly was chaired by Professor Dr. Nasreen Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka.  More than five hundred delegates along with the Vice Chancellors of several universities, renowned professors, officials, and students participated in the program.  To ensure the quality education with moral values have been given more priority in the discussion.  Most of the guest opined  to fulfil the mission and vision of higher education the Dhaka University need to work as a model and guide for other universities in Bangladesh.    

International Students Association of Bangladesh Visited MIU

On invitation of the Center of General Education (CGED) of MIU, Saturday, January 12, 2018,  nine members of International Student Association of IUT in the leadership their president Mr. Yousf Usman from Nigeria visited MIU Gulshan and Ashulia Campus. They had formal meeting with Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Umar Ali in his office at Gulshan. Mr. Hafizul Islam Mian, Treasurer, Md. Manirul Islam, Registrar, : Prof. Hemayet Hussain Khan, Head Department of English, Dean, Faculty of Arts of Humanities,  Md. Ashraful Islam, Head, Department of CSE, Md. Mahbub Alom, Head, Department of Business Administration, Mr. A.H.M. Abu Syeed, Controller of Examination, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Coordinator, CGED and Assistant Advisor, Students' Welfare, Dr. Sabiha Sultana, Assistant Professor of GED at MIU were present in the meeting. Honorable Vice Chancellor discussed different academic issues with the international students and feedback from the them. International students were highly pleased to know the academic and extra curricular activities of MIU.

Workshop on Leadership Dynamism: Contemporary World, November 15, 2017

The Center of General Education of Manarat International University arranged a workshop on Leadership Dynamism: Contemporary World” at its Cordova Seminar Room in Gulshan Campus. Seventy students of different semesters participated in the workshop.  Chief Discussant of the Seminar was Dr. Ziaur Rahman, psc, Associate Professor, Bangladesh University of Professionals. Mr. Hafizul Islam Mian, treasured of the university gave his valuable speech as the Chief Guest of the program. Program was coordinated by Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Professor, Students’ Advisor and Coordinator of the Center of General Education. Professor Sirajuddaula Shaheen, Dean, School of Business and Economics, Mr. Md. Manirul Islam, Registrar, Mr. Mahbub Alom, Assistant Professor of Marketing also spoke on the workshop.  Main objective of the workshop was to develop the leadership qualities among the students to lead the national and international level. The Chief Guest said to the students to acquire knowledge to face challenges the modern world.  After the workshop certificates were distributed among the participants.

Nigerian Students’ Representatives Visiting MIU

  Eight members of the Nigerian Students’ Association of Bangladesh visited MIU on 14 June 2015, and a successful meeting was held with the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Choudhury Mahmood Hasan.  Alongside, an informal meeting was held in the Registrar Office where Honorable Chairman of MIU Trust Mr. Shah Abdul Hannan and Member of the Board of Trustees of MIU Professor Dr. Shamsuddin Ahmed were present.  The delegates met the Dean of Arts and Humanities and Head of English Professor Hemayet Hussain Khan and the Dean of Business and Economics and Head of Business Administration Professor Dr. Ruhul Amin in their respective offices.  They also visited the MIU Library and few classrooms at Gulshan campus. The delegates also met few faculty members and officials at MIU. After having lunch at the TOPKAPI restaurant, we arranged for them a short visit to the Mirpur campus where they met the Dean of Engineering, Science and Technology Professor Dr. Mohd. Ekram Ali Shaikh and the Head of CSE Associate Professor Mr. Ashraful Islam. After visiting both the campuses they arrived IUT safely right after the Magrib prayer on that day. Student Representatives were highly pleased to see the environment of MIU and also with the cordial hospitality, especially by the great speech of Honorable Vice Chancellor which motivated the visiting Nigerian Students to a great extent.  They were also happy to meet the Chairman of MIU Trust, and also to meet Prof. Dr. Shamsuddin Ahmed who worked for a long time at IUT.  Two undergraduate Nigerian students had shown their interest to complete their MBA from MIU after completing their graduation at IUT.  Few of them said that they would be discussing seriously for the study of Nigerian Students at MIU at all possible levels.  They also said that they would try to arrange a visit to MIU by their Country Ambassador to Bangladesh when he will be coming to Bangladesh, Insha Allah. They further expressed that they had received homely behavior by the faculties and officials of MIU.  This is their first visit to MIU, which is expected pave the ways for them to come again and again and to develop a good relation with the Bangladeshi and Negirian students and faculties.

US-Bangladesh Students’ Cultural Exchange Program

IMG_1533 IMG_1493 IMG_1496Cultural Exchange Program USA & BD   The Center of General Education of Manarat International University arranged a seminar on “Cultural Exchange Program: Students from Bangladesh and USA” Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Cordova Seminar Room of MIU.  Eleven delegates from USA participated in the seminar and discussion meeting.  Professor Choudhury Mahmood Hasan, Honorable Vice Chancellor of MIU, spoke as the chief guest in the program. Professor C.M. Hasan says that it is our great pleasure to get USA students among us for cultural exchange program.   I believe both countries’ students will be benefited from this program.  He also says that moral degradation is prevailing all over the world. All the religious teachings are excellent but we failed to understand it properly or it has been misinterpreted. We have to uphold the family system which is breaking day by day in the modern world and bring lots of problems in the society. John Boyle of the Liberty University, Sarah Betsch of the University of Northern Colorado spoke on the USA side and expressed their gratitude to MIU for arranging such a wonderful program.  They said that the Bangladeshi people are very friendly, hospitable and generous.  After the seminar the students of the both countries are involved in the discussion in a few small groups to exchange their views.  For special amusement the students of the both countries sang a few songs.  The program was conducted by Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Center of General Education. Mr.Md. Mahbub Alom, Assistant Professor of Marketing, Dr. Ayub Md. Ibrahim, Assistant Professor of GED, Dr. Muhammad Obaidullah Assistant Professor of GED, Deputy Director of PR and SA, Abdul Matin were present in the occasion.
