“Assembly on Higher Education in Bangladesh”

Five student representative from the Department of English and four others from the Department of Business Administration along with Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Professor in GED and Assistant Advisor, Students’ Welfare of Manarat International University participated in the “Assembly on Higher Education in Bangladesh” on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Senate Hall, Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. The Assembly was organized by the Department of International Relations and Department of History, University of Dhaka in association with the German based think-tank Friedrich –Ebart-Stiftung (EFS). Welcome remarks were given by Professor Imtiaz Ahmed, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Ms Franziska Korn, Resident Representative, FES Bangladesh and His Excellency Dr. Thomas Prinz, German Ambassador to Bangladesh. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCGM, the founder and Chairman of BRAC delivered the keynote speech at the Assembly.  Dr. Iftekhar Iqbal, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Dhaka gave a presentation on Public University and Mr. Parvez Karim Abbasi, Associate Professor of Economics, East West University gave a presentation on Private University. Professor Atique Islam, Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor M, Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Independent University Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha, Pro Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi participated as the discussant as well as guest of honor.   The Assembly was chaired by Professor Dr. Nasreen Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka.  More than five hundred delegates along with the Vice Chancellors of several universities, renowned professors, officials, and students participated in the program.  To ensure the quality education with moral values have been given more priority in the discussion.  Most of the guest opined  to fulfil the mission and vision of higher education the Dhaka University need to work as a model and guide for other universities in Bangladesh.
